The unexpected failure of a rubber product or component can have devastating repercussions and incur costly legal ramifications for the manufacturer. With over thirty five different elastomer types to choose from, expert input at the material selection and design stage is critical to prevent failure.
Designers and engineers will need to have an in-depth understanding of the material chosen and its limitations. They should also model the failure modes for the material – including a predicted model for its end-use environment. The design or material can then be adapted based on the results of this exercise.
