(Akron, Ohio) April 24, 2025 – Smithers, a leading provider of testing, consulting, information, and compliance services, is pleased to announce the promotion of Sean Thomson to the role of Commercial Director for its Medical Device Testing Division.
As Commercial Director, Thomson will lead a dedicated team focused on delivering world-class service to clients around the globe, strengthening relationships with key partners, and advancing Smithers strategic goals.

Thomson joined Smithers in 2010 as Commercial Manager for Europe, overseeing services now central to the Materials Science and Engineering and Medical Device Testing Divisions. He has obtained his Honors Bachelor degree of Mechanical Engineering from The University of Plymouth. Over the past decade, he has been instrumental in expanding Smithers presence in the life sciences sector, fostering strong client relationships, and driving growth across European laboratories.
In 2020, Thomson moved to the newly established Medical Device Testing Division to focus more directly on the life sciences market. His leadership, client-centric approach, and industry expertise have generated significant new business and strengthened Smithers reputation for excellence and partnership.
