9.00     History of Cokemaking: The development of the cokemaking facilities is described starting from the covered heap oven via beehive ovens to the actual status of the modern slot type ovens.

From Coal to Coke: The formation of coal is described and the coal fields round the world are summarized. The analyses of the raw material coal and its classification is part of this chapter as well as what happens to the coal during the coking process and why is the coke needed for in the blast furnace process. Last part is how to influence the coke quality by the coking process and the charging coal blend.

10.30   Coffee Break

The Battery Block: Here the general design of the oven block is described with a special focus to the refractory materials and the bracing system. The tightness of the oven doors is discussed and the reversing system.
Battery Heating: This chapter contains detailed descriptions of the different oven and heating wall systems, the combustion of the different u-gases including the NOx-generation, the heat transfer, reversal system and u-gas piping. A short description of the differences of the HR-System and the slot type oven is given.

Heat Recovery System: The HR-system and its differences to the slot type system is described more detailed than in chapter 4.
The Raw Gas System: The raw gas system and the by-product plant is described in a short cut.

3.30     Coffee Break

Coke Cooling: Both systems, wet quenching and coke dry cooling, are described with their advantages and disadvantages. A special explanation is given to the quenching of HR-coke. The emissions of the quench tower are decried and discussed. 
Recent Developments and Trends: This chapter describes the last developments of the slot type oven, alternative coking processes, alternative uses of the coke oven gas.
